"A powerful and provocative critique of the foundations of Rational Choice theory and the economic way of thinking about the world, written by a former leading practitioner. The target is a dehumanizing ideology that cannot properly recognize that normal people have attachments and commitments to other people and to practices, projects, principles, and places, which provide them with desire-independent reasons for action, and that they are reflective creatures who think about what they are and what they should be, with ideals that can shape and structure the way they see their choices. The author’s views are brought to bear on the economic way of thinking about the natural environment and on how and when the norm of fair reciprocity motivates us to do our part in cooperative endeavors. Throughout, the argument is adorned by thought-provoking examples that keep what is at stake clearly before the reader’s mind."

Bio:

Michael Taylor (born 1942), is a political theorist and political economist who currently teaches at the University of Washington. His research interests include rational choice theory, moral motivation and game theory.
Although game theory was applied in social sciences before Taylor's work, he was the first to explicitly link rationality with collective action. He sets out a theory for a rationally motivated revolution and rational cooperation. His theory specifically states that cooperation can be achieved without the intervention of the state. Rational individuals will cooperate as it will maximise their long term utility. Taylor shows this through game theory and especially the Prisoner's Dilemma supergame.

Chumbawamba 1982-2000

Category: Misc
Description:
Chumbawamba is a Leeds based English anarchist music group. It evolved from its punk roots, through pop, techno, and various other styles, to the folk group which it is now. The band is known for its polyphony and its non-conformant lyrics. The band was formed in 1982 from two other bands based in Yorkshire, The Passion Killers and Chimp Eats Banana. They released a series of albums (such as Pictures of Starving Children Sell Records and the a capella album English Rebel Songs) and singles on their own Agit-Pop label before moving to One Little Indian in the early 90s.

On One Little Indian, Chumbawamba released three albums, Slap!, Shhh, and Anarchy, on which influences of techno music are noticeable. The songs for these albums were written in a period when dance culture was thriving and the band were also influenced by it. The music had turned into a more popular sound, which they emphasized was to spread the message more effectively. Touring for Anarchy, the concert at Leeds was recorded for the live album “Showbusiness!”.
The last album released on One Little Indian is Swingin’ with Raymond (1995). The albums first six songs are about (the right to) love and ends with seven songs loaded with hate (in the broadest sense of the word: it includes a song about anorexia nervosa).

Anarchy or not, the band signed to EMI by 1997. At EMI, Chumbawamba had brief mainstream success, with the singles Tubthumping and Amnesia, taken from Tubthumper. Like Slap! and Shhh, the album was noticeably influenced by techno music. The new Chumbawamba fans needed for an overview, EMI might have thought. So Uneasy Listening, a compilation of work from 1986-1998 was released by 1998.

From necessity or love? If the former, then our world is failing us, we are being exploited, being made slaves for the benefit of others. The ethic that work is a \'good thing\' is a throwback to a Victorian mentality of puritanical pain and denial of our humanity, an ethic that is so far removed from the reality of our human nature as to be pathological.\"A collection of essays written from the anti-work perspective. These essays investigate concepts of freedom, compulsory labor, the \'work ethic\', the wages system, employment, and \'occupations.\' :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::\"Days of war, nights of love\":::::::::::::::::::::::::::::\"Less of a novel and more of an exploded manifesto, Days of War, Nights of Love might be just what we need. It is the type of book you\'d thumb through in the store and actually want to buy (or steal)... Topics range from anarchy to hierarchy, work to sex, alienation to liberation and technology, but every page burns with a passion for a freer life... When you make it to the end, the personal testimonials about not working and the closing art pieces become an aria of voices urging you to close the book and live. Glorious, even for the most cynical reader. What more can we ask from a book?\" - Clamor Magazine #6, Dec.00/Jan.01:::::::::::::::::::::\"Emma Goldman essays\":::::::::::::::::::::\"In the eighteen-nineties and for years thereafter, America reverberated with the name of the \'notorious Anarchist,\' feminist, revolutionist and agitator, Emma Goldman. A Russian Jewish immigrant at the age of 17, she moved by her own efforts from seamstress in a clothing factory to internationally known radical lecturer, writer, editor and friend of the oppressed. ...a collection of her remarkably penetrating essays, far in advance of their time, originally published by the Mother Earth press which she founded.\"::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::\"Thoughts on (the) society of the spectacle\"::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::\"The whole life of those societies in which modern conditions of production prevail presents itself as an immense accumulation of spectacles. All that once was directly lived has become mere representation.\"Instead of a direct recording of the text, here a collection of people read some of their favorite aphorisms, and tell stories about how those aphorisms relate to their lives. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::\"Against the logic of submission\":::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::\"Submission to domination is enforced not solely, nor even most significantly, through blatant repression, but rather through subtle manipulations worked into the fabric of everyday social relationships. These manipulations ? ingrained in the social fabric not because domination is everywhere and nowhere, but because the institutions of domination create rules, laws, mores and customs that enforce such manipulations ? create a logic of submission, an often unconscious tendency to justify resignation and subservience in one\'s everyday relations in the world. For this reason, it is necessary for those who are serious about developing an anarchist insurrectional project to confront this tendency wherever it appears ? in their lives, their relationships and the ideas and practices of the struggles in which they participate. Such a confrontation is not a matter of therapy, which itself partakes of the logic of submission, but of defiant refusal.\":::::::::::::::::::::::\"The anarchist tension\":::::::::::::::::::::::\"Anarchism is not a concept that can be locked up in a word like a gravestone. It is not a political theory. It is a way of conceiving life. And life, young or old as we may be, is not something definitive: it is a stake we must play day after day. When we wake up in the morning and put our feet on the ground we must have a good reason for getting up. If we don\'t it makes no difference whether we are anarchists or not. We might as well stay in bed and sleep.\"Alfredo M. Bonanno, an Italian anarchist currently serving six years for charges related to the famous \"Marini Trial,\" writes about insurrectionary anarchism.
Seeders: 0
Leeches: 0

Category: Talks, Debates, Interviews
Description:
Parity_Talk_June-07-2009__Either_Moral_or_Stupid
We have two choices in life. Either we are moral, or we are stupid. Greed doesn't work no matter how many secret clubs you belong to and crime doesn't pay no matter how "above the law" a person may appear to be. The biggest danger that evil poses is the belief people have that it brings benefits and enrichment to its most skilled practitioners. It's simply not the case because the side effects of maliciousness are everywhere. It's much better to stay balanced and stable. Better yet, help us build a better world. We start by changing our attitudes.
On this day we commemorate: Gandhi's first act of civil disobedience and the double taking of Jerusalem.

Many topics discussed including:
-the Common Cause and NLP controversy.
- Noam Chomsky, Gandhi and codex Alimentarius
- Dynamically evolving structural process in family life.
- Why morals matter even in our modern age.
- Definition of evil: addiction to selfishness.
-Maybe a form of non physically violent Anarchy is needed?
- Luke Besson´s latest movie on the disastrous state of our planet.
- We have to get it to into our heads selfishness cannot be the engine of growth for the planet. Crime does not pay.
- We cite examples in our history of states that had a better share in the wealth and were both dynamic and vibrant remembering: Persepolis and Sparta.
P.S. the stupid audio intro is just sort of a private joke pertinent to the week.

New Libertarian Manifesto by SEK3 (Narrated by Mike Gogulski)

Category: eBooks, Magazines, Audio Books
Description:
The New Libertarian Manifesto, Samuel Edward Konkin III's seminal work

, is narrated & brought to life by renowned stateless-citizen blogger

Mike Gogulski.

Introductory Text:

"Good morning, New Libertarian. Good morning, agorist.

The voice you will hear for the next 85 minutes or so belongs to me, Mike Gogulski.

I am a stateless ex-American.

I renounced my American citizenship in 2008 and I have been a voluntary exile since 2004, presently living in Bratislava, Slovakia.

As of this recording in May 2009, I maintain a website at www.nostate.com, which you are invited to visit.

The words you will hear belong to all of humanity, but they were written by Samuel Edward Konkin III, arguably the initiator of the agorist theory.

The book, New Libertarian Manifesto, was first published in 1980, and then updated in 1983.

After two, brief prefaces, the book consists of five chapters:

I. Statism: Our Condition

II. Agorism: Our Goal

III. Counter-Economics: Our Means

IV. Revolution: Our Strategy

V. Action! Our Tactics

I have attempted to read the text of New Libertarian Manifesto as I have it in hand. Any deviations from the written text – which you can find online at the website agorism.info – are my own.

After listening, take action.

Agora! Anarchy! Action!"
Seeders: 4
Leeches: 1
