Noam Chomsky - Distorted Morality (DVD-XviD)

Category: Chomsky
Description:
Noam Chomsky is a renowned scholar, the founder of the modern science of linguistics, a philosopher, a political and social analyst, a media critic, an author of more than 70 books, a winner of numerous prizes and awards, and ranks with Marx, Shakespeare, and the Bible as one of the 10 most quoted sources in the humanities.

In this remarkable documentary, Noam Chomsky offers a riveting but devastating critique of America's current war on terror arguing, in fact, that it is a logistical impossibility for such a war to be taking place. Professor Chomsky presents his reasoning with astonishing and refreshing clarity, drawing from a wealth of historical knowledge and analysis. "Only those who are entirely ignorant of modern history will be surprised by the course of events, or by the justifications that are provided..."

Chomsky, a MIT professor is a world-renowned author and expert on media communications and politics. Though he may not have the most charismatic speaking style, his knowledge and ability to tie events together to explain a non mainstream story, is bar none. He is often interviewed in documentaries due to the respect that he has earned over his long career promoting the interests of the middle and working class. In this speech, he gives an interesting timeline of U.S. sanctioned state sponsored international terrorism spanning several continents and several decades while giving the U.S. government the benefit of the doubt in areas of dispute.

The facts may surprise you.

IMDB Review: Noam Chomsky is that dry, factual, intellectual that you probably fell asleep listening to in your college classes. However, if you even begin to listen to what he is saying, you'll suddenly become angry, scared or saddened and be drawn to listen further. Unless you're thoroughly familiar with US foreign actions for the last 20 years you'll wonder how he can possibly be telling the truth half the time. However with his constant encouragement to check sources and research exactly what he's saying he'd have to be absolutely crazy to be lying about what he's saying. The US hypocrisy toward terrorism becomes obvious and you are simply left wondering why the media isn't reporting it... Now you'll have to go watch another Chomsky film called Manufacturing Consent to understand why the media are so complacent in this hypocrisy. The media has only gotten worse since that film was made (1992), so may want to check out Orwell Rolls in His Grave for a more recent treatise of the media's faults. If only half the people knew half the information Chomsky could impart to them in half an hour, the outrage would force a great positive change in the world.

The first lecture was given at Harvard University JFK School of Government. The second was held at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where Chomsky has been a professor for over forty years. DISTORTED MORALITY is a crucial document for anyone struggling for a stronger grasp of the post 9/11 world.

We have collected about 200 gigabytes as of today. FYI - 2 is, of course, the second product of our work, there are many more to come. Most of the documentaries in the FYI compilations have already been uploaded but since not all files remain seeded we compiled them to make this seeding task easier and also to be suitable for direct distribution on DVD. The compilation includes a few media players so there won't be any trouble viewing the content. Players included are: VLC Player, Real Player Alternative and BS Player (which supports subtitles).
If you already downloaded some of the documentaries listed on this episode you can deselect the files you don't want using BitComet. Other programs support this feature as well, just check yours for it.
If you are looking for additional info on the documentaries we included you can do a search for that documentary at www.chomskytorrents.org and you will most likely find the seperate file with the info included there.

Noam Chomsky - Distorted Morality

Category: Chomsky
Description:
The hypocrisy of the U.S. government is powerfully scrutinized in Distorted Morality, a scathing thesis presented by renowned scholar Noam Chomsky. Speaking before an intimate audience at Harvard University on February 6, 2002, Chomsky sets fair and logical parameters to his thesis (namely, we are all hypocrites and, for the purposes of debate, the U.S. government should always be given benefit of the doubt) before outlining, with academic precision and citation of real history (as opposed to biased written history), the reasons why America's post-9/11 war on terror is a logical impossibility.

This, according to Chomsky's carefully supported analysis, is because the U.S. government has been, and continues to be, a major supporter of state-supported terrorism, favoring retaliatory or preemptive aggression over mediation in the world court, and avoiding accountability by excluding itself from the globally accepted definition of terrorism. (To underscore his point, Chomsky repeatedly volunteers his sources, inviting scrutiny at every turn.) With an additional hour-long Q&A session (in some ways more compelling, since it offers Chomsky's response to opposing viewpoints), Distorted Morality deserves the widest possible audience. In the short period between Chomsky's Harvard speech and the start of America's war against Iraq in March 2003, Chomsky's thesis has attained the chilling status of prophesy. Inevitably, Chomsky will be labeled anti-American, but at least his morality is crystal clear, immune to the obfuscation of politics and mainstream news. --Jeff Shannon
