"FRONTLINE cuts through the fog of war to reveal the untold story of what happened in Haditha, Iraq — where 24 of the town’s residents were killed by U.S. forces in what many in the media branded “Iraq’s My Lai.” With accusations swirling that the Marines massacred Iraqi civilians “in cold blood,” the Haditha incident has led to one of the largest criminal cases against U.S. troops in the Iraq war. But real questions have emerged about what really happened that day and who is responsible. Through television interviews with Iraqi survivors and Marines accused of war crimes, FRONTLINE investigates this incident and what it can tell us about the harrowing moral and legal landscape the U.S. military faces in Iraq."

Great great film, wasnt sure about it at 1st but is a must see. Some very candid thoughts and statements from Robert considering his past career.

The Fog of War, the movie that finally won Errol Morris the best documentary Oscar, is a spellbinder. Morris interviews Robert McNamara, Secretary of Defense in the Kennedy and Johnson administrations, and finds a uniquely unsettling viewpoint on much of 20th-century American history. Employing a ton of archival material, including LBJ's fascinating taped conversations from the Oval Office, Morris probes the reasons behind the U.S. commitment to the Vietnam War--and finds a depressingly inconsistent policy. McNamara himself emerges as--well, not exactly apologetic, but clearly haunted by the what-ifs of Vietnam. He also mulls the bombing of Japan in World War II and the Cuban Missile Crisis, raising more questions than he answers. The Fog of War has the usual inexorable Morris momentum, aided by an uneasy Philip Glass score. This movie provides a glimpse inside government. It also encourages skepticism about same. --Robert Horton

Lessons from The Fog of War: discussion w/ Robert McNamara

Category: Talks, Debates, Interviews
Description:
The Fog of War was a brilliant film that lacked a crucial element: a discussion of its meaning in the context of contemporary events, especially the current war in Iraq. This discussion - recorded last year at the University of California at Berkeley (and somehow overlooked) - is The Fog of War's missing link to the sad reality of America's geo-political position today. From the bombshell dropped by Robert McNamara at the beginning of the discussion to the withering attempts by Mark Danner to force McNamara into open criticism of the Bush administration, this video is extraordinarily insightful, simulataneously hopeful and fatalistic, and often heart-stoppingly intense. Robert McNamara comes across as an amazingly complex yet passionate man with an important message to be understood, debated and acted upon. For those of us who consider ourselves somewhat politically astute, this discussion is an absolute must-see.
Seeders: 0
Leeches: 0
