A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Moon

<font size="3"><b>Category:</b></font> Documentary<br /><font size="3"><b>Description:</b><br /></font> Sibrel believes that there were numerous insurmountable scientific and technical problems which made it improbable that men could land on the moon and return to Earth safely. Further, he believes that certain anomalies and inconsistencies in NASA's records of the landings point to a hoax, and that the space race was actually a race to develop armaments, citing a 95 percent similarity between the technologies that allowed the launch of intercontinental ballistic missiles and the launch of the Saturn V rockets.
Bart Sibrel claims that NASA perpetrated a fraud, because of the perception that if the United States could put a man on the moon before the Soviet Union did it would be a major victory in the Cold War, since the Soviets had been the first to achieve a successful space launch (Sputnik in 1957), the first manned space flight (Vostok 1 in 1961), and the first spacewalk (Voskhod 2 in 1965).
Bart Sibrel also claims that the life-threatening events that occurred during the Apollo 13 mission were actually manufactured by the government to force people to pay attention to the space program. He suggests that this is proven by the claim that a number of viewers called the television networks complaining that coverage of the second lunar mission, Apollo 12, was interrupting repeats of the I Love Lucy program, saying: &quot;it became clear that for the taxpayers, once was enough&quot;.
The 47-minute documentary primarily focuses on the Van Allen belts, areas of intense radiation circling the Earth, as a major reason why Sibrel believes it was impossible for a manned spacecraft to land on the moon. Bart Sibrel also presents what he claims is official NASA footage, shot over the course of three days, that was not meant for public release. In this footage, the crew of Apollo 11: Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin &quot;Buzz&quot; Aldrin are, according to Sibrel, staging part of their mission to make it appear that they were 130,000 miles from Earth. The illusion was allegedly perpetrated thus: a color camera was placed at the rear of the capsule, anything that could produce light was deactivated, and an insert was placed on the window to create a false terminator. Sibrel's allegation here is that it took three days for the astronauts to perfect their filming techniques rather than travel to the moon. Moreover, he contends that there is &quot;Earthshine&quot; clearly visible in the window after the lights were turned back on and that this proves that Apollo 11 was in low Earth orbit.
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Moon also examines the still photographs and points out what it claims are anomalies, such as non-parallel shadows, to support the assertion that multiple artificial lighting sources were used; sped-up video footage of the astronauts walking on the lunar surface and lunar rovers driving on the surface are also used to advance the theory they were actually filmed on Earth and slowed down to simulate the moon's lower gravity. The lack of visible stars is another point stressed by Bart Sibrel.
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Moon was narrated by a British stage actress named Anne Tonelson. Bart Sibrel himself makes no appearance in the film. He does appear prominently in the similarly-toned Fox Television Network special, Conspiracy Theory: Did We Land on the Moon?
Bart Sibrel also alleges that the &quot;Star Wars&quot; Strategic Defense Initiative was far simpler than the government claimed it was, and that tests were artificially manipulated to, according to the Government Accountability Office, fool the Soviets about U.S. military readiness.

[edit] Criticisms
Jim McDade, writing in the Birmingham News, characterized A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Moon as &quot;full of falsehoods, innuendo, strident accusations, half-truths, flawed logic and premature conclusions.&quot;[1] According to McDade, the &quot;only thing new and weird&quot; in the 47-minute film is that the claim that video views of Earth were actually filmed through a small hole to give the impression that Apollo 11 was not in low earth orbit.[1] &quot;Bart has misinterpreted things that are immediately obvious to anyone who has extensively read Apollo history and documentation or anyone who has ever been inside an Apollo Command Module or accurate mockup,&quot; says McDade.[1]
Sibrel has also gained some national exposure as an alleged astronaut stalker.[2] One infamous incident was with Buzz Aldrin. Sibrel asked Aldrin to put his hand on a Bible and swear that he walked on the moon and when Aldrin refused, Sibrel called Aldrin a coward, liar and thief. This led to an angry Aldrin punching Sibrel in his face.<br /> <font size="3"><b>Seeders: </b></font>2<br /> <font size="3"><b>Leeches: </b></font>0

(Description edited)
More than three decades after the Clean Water Act, iconic American waterways like the Chesapeake Bay and Puget Sound are in perilous condition and facing new sources of contamination.

With polluted runoff still flowing in from industry, agriculture and massive suburban development, scientists note that many new pollutants and toxins from modern everyday life are already being found in the drinking water of millions of people across the country and pose a threat to fish, wildlife and, potentially, human health.

In Poisoned Waters, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Hedrick Smith examines the growing hazards to human health and the ecosystem.

&quot;The '70s were a lot about, 'We're the good guys; we're the environmentalists; we're going to go after the polluters,' and it's not really about that anymore,&quot; Jay Manning, director of ecology for Washington state, tells FRONTLINE. &quot;It's about the way we all live. And unfortunately, we are all polluters. I am; you are; all of us are.&quot;

Through interviews with scientists, environmental activists, corporate executives and average citizens impacted by the burgeoning pollution problem, Smith reveals startling new evidence that today's growing environmental threat comes not from the giant industrial polluters of old, but from chemicals in consumers' face creams, deodorants, prescription medicines and household cleaners that find their way into sewers, storm drains and eventually into America's waterways and drinking water.

In Poisoned Waters, Smith speaks with researchers from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), who report finding genetically mutated marine life in the Potomac River. In addition to finding frogs with six legs and other mutations, the researchers have found male amphibians with ovaries and female frogs with male genitalia. Scientists tell FRONTLINE that the mutations are likely caused by exposure to &quot;endocrine disruptors,&quot; chemical compounds that mimic the body's natural hormones.

The USGS research on the Potomac River poses some troubling questions for the 2 million people who rely on the Washington Aqueduct for their drinking water.

&quot;The endocrine system of fish is very similar to the endocrine system of humans,&quot; USGS fish pathologist Vicki Blazer says. &quot;They pretty much have all the same hormone systems as humans, which is why we use them as sort of indicator species. ... We can't help but make that jump to ask the question, 'How are these things influencing people?'&quot;

&quot;The long-term, slow-motion risk is already being spelled out in epidemiologic data, studies -- large population studies,&quot; says Dr. Robert Lawrence of the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. &quot;There are 5 million people being exposed to endocrine disruptors just in the Mid-Atlantic region, and yet we don't know precisely how many of them are going to develop premature breast cancer, going to have problems with reproduction, going to have all kinds of congenital anomalies of the male genitalia, things that are happening at a broad low level so that they don't raise the alarm in the general public.&quot;

Smith also investigates the state of Puget Sound's environment, where decades of pollution have endangered such species as orca whales, whose carcasses have shown high levels of cancer-causing PCBs.

In addition to assessing the scope of America's polluted-water problem, Poisoned Waters highlights several cases in which grassroots citizens' groups succeeded in effecting environmental change: In South Park, Wash., incensed residents pushed for better cleanup of PCB contamination that remained from an old asphalt plant. In Loudon County, Va., residents prevented a large-scale housing development that would have overwhelmed already-strained stormwater systems believed to contribute to the contamination in Chesapeake Bay.

Reversing decades of pollution and preventing the irreversible annihilation of the nation's waterways, however, will require a seismic shift in the way Americans live their lives and use natural resources, experts say.

Green Anarchy Vol. 6-22

<font size="3"><b>Category:</b></font> eBooks, Magazines, Audio Books<br /><font size="3"><b>Description:</b><br /></font> What is Green Anarchy Magazine?

Green Anarchy is a radical anti-civilization anarchist magazine produced by an anarchist collective in Oregon and is published twice a year. Green Anarchy began as a basic introduction to eco-anarchist and radical environmental ideas, but after a year of limited success, members of the current collective took on the project with an enthusiastic trajectory. It took a few more issues to get into stride, but by issue #8/Spring 2002, the magazine had gained an international reputation within the anarchist and environmental movements, as well as occasional mentions in the mainstream press (Fox News, Eugene Weekly, and more). The collective has evolved over the past few years, but a core of dedicated individuals have been able to produce a consistent high-quality journal, delivered on-time, while we continue to broaden our scope, distribution, and print run. We have a large subscription base, small-scale localized distributors around the world, and a notoriety as collective consistently posing provocative questions on the state of the world and global resistance. Green Anarchy is one of the most noted mediums for expressing green anarchist and anarcho-primitivist ideas and critiques. It is one of the most respected anarchist and radical environmental journals today, while continuously gaining more appeal in the non-activist world.

The collective is currently comprised of a number of diverse individuals with years of experience as self-publishers, authors, and speakers. Individuals in the collective are involved in various projects ranging from radio shows, video publications, international speaking tours, and more, yet, Green Anarchy remains the priority for all involved. One of the editors, John Zerzan, is an accomplished author, whose books include: Elements of Refusal (C.A.L. Press), Future Primitive (Autonomedia), Against Civilization (Uncivilized Books), and Running On Emptiness (Feral House), as well as numerous international translations.

Green Anarchy switched from a newsprint tabloid to a magazine format with issue #15/Winter 2004, so we could provide a more durable publication that is easier to read and to widen our circulation. Currently our magazine ranges from 72-100 pages with print-runs between 8-9000 copies. We also have a large distribution center with anarchist zines, periodicals, books, and videos.
What Can I Expect In Each Issue?

Each issue of Green Anarchy is carefully and meticulously constructed and features anti-civilization, green anarchist, and anarcho-primitivist theory and discussions, in-depth analysis of anarchist and other resistance 'movements' (including indigenous, anti-capital, anti-colonial, ecological, and animal liberation struggles), direct action reports from around the world, state repression news, political prisoner updates, reviews, opinions, letters, rants, poetry, provocative imagery, and much more!
What Are the Critics Saying?

"Intriguingly, [Green Anarchy] manages the difficult feat of being at the same time angry and upbeat. This is theory with its feet firmly in practice, and criticisms with suggestions on how to do things differently...this is a very mature effort from some very mature people"

-- Anarchy: A Journal of Desire Armed (#57/Spring-Summer 2004)

"An impressive, intelligent, insurrectionary zine that has matured amazingly well."

-- Fifth Estate (Vol. 39 No.1 - Spring 2004)

"This is an amazing Northwest publication, so much covered in this "anti-civilization" bible of sorts. Damn do these guys have their shit together. Highly recommended."

-- Profane Existence (#43 - Summer/Fall 2003)

"Whoa, Green Anarchy has changed formats -- gone is the tabloid newsprint and in its place rides this new beast. For those unfamiliar, Green Anarchy is an "anti-civilization journal of theory and action," and while I'm not totally into their primitivism approach, I do enjoy reading their writings because beneath the thick layers of rhetoric, there are some very well constructed critiques of modern society, as well as the "activist" scene. Always interesting read."

The Bases Are Loaded

Will the U.S. ever leave Iraq? Official policy promises an eventual departure, while warning of the dire consequences of a &amp;quot;premature&amp;quot; withdrawal. But while Washington equivocates, facts on the ground tell another story. Independent journalist Dahr Jamail, and author Chalmers Johnson, are discovering that military bases in Iraq are being consolidated from over a hundred to a handful of &amp;quot;megabases&amp;quot; with lavish amenities. Much of what is taking place is obscured by denials and quibbles over the definition of &amp;quot;permanent.&amp;quot; The Bases Are Loaded covers a wide range of topics. Gary Hart, James Goldsborough, Nadia Keilani, Raed Jarrar, Bruce Finley and Kam Zarrabi all add their observations about the extent and purpose of the bases in Iraq. - - - -

DMT: The Spirit Molecule

http://www.rickstrassman.com/

The Spirit Molecule reviews what we know about psychedelic drugs in general, and DMT in particular. It then traces the DMT research project from its earliest intimations through the maze of committees and review boards to its actual performance.

This book started the new psychedelic revolution. Dr. Rick Strassman's report on the results of the first officially sanctioned study of psychedelics to be carried out in the US in 40 years.

DMT: The Spirit Molecule Dr. Strassman leads the way into a new exploration of psychedelics. Careful, mature science is replacing the hedonistic excesses of the sixties--and scientists like Dr. Strassman believe that they are discovering a way to see into other dimensions, even as other scientists are beginning to prove that they're real. A true wonder journey.

3.) Zemlya (Earth AKA Soil) (1930)
Black and White, Silent (English writing) - 75 min

Directed and written by
Aleksandr Dovzhenko

This film was voted one of the ten greatest films of all time by a group
of 117 film historians at the 1958 Brussels World Fair.

Dovzhenko's "film poem" style brings to life the collective experience of life for the Ukranian proles, examining natural cycles through his epic montage. He explores life, death, violence, sex, and other issues as they relate to the collective farms. An idealistic vision of the possibilities of Communism made just before Stalinism set in and the Kulack class was liquidated, "Earth" was viewed negatively by many Soviets because of its exploration of death and other dark issues that come with revolution.

One is the love story of young Countess Natasha Rostova and Count Pierre Bezukhov, who is unhappy in his marriage. Another is the "Great Patriotic War" of 1812 against the invading Napoleon's Armies. The people of Russia from all classes of society stand up united against the enemy. Napoleon's armies take Moscow only after Russians burned the entire city. Napoleon cannot spend the coldest winter in the old Russian capital, even in it's fortress - Kremlin. Russians besiege the invaders in Moscow by sealing all roads and cutting supplies. Napoleon's massive army becomes exhausted, and many of his troops are deserting to Russians for survival. Napoleon gets defeated after causing terrible losses to both sides. Peace comes at a very high price. Russian society is changed by the war. Pierre Bezukhov returns from the war a mature man. He separates from his manipulative wife Helene. Now he devotes his love to the beautiful and sincere Countess Natasha Rostova.

Part 1: In 1547, Ivan IV (1530-1584), archduke of Moscow, crowns himself Tsar of Russia and sets about reclaiming lost Russian territory. In scenes of his coronation, his wedding to Anastasia, his campaign against the Tartars in Kazan, his illness when all think he will die, recovery, campaigns in the Baltic and Crimea, self-imposed exile in Alexandrov, and the petition of Muscovites that he return, his enemies among the boyars threaten his success. Chief among them are his aunt, who wants to advance the fortunes of her son, a simpleton, and Kurbsky, a warrior prince who wants both power and the hand of Anastasia. Ivan deftly plays to the people to consolidate his power.

Part II: His wife dead from poisoning and his chief warrior, Kurbsky, defected to the Poles, Ivan is lonely as he pursues a unified Russia with no foreign occupiers. Needing friendship, he brings to court Kolychev, now Philip the monk, and makes him metropolitan bishop of Moscow. Philip, however, takes his cues from the boyars and tries to bend Ivan to the will of the church. Ivan faces down Philip and lets loose his private force, the Oprichniks, on the boyars. Led by the Tsar's aunt, Euphrosyne, the boyers plot to assassinate Ivan and enthrone her son, Vladimir. At a banquet, Ivan mockingly crowns Vladimir and sends him in royal robes into the cathedral where the assassin awaits.
