In the process of moving the site to a new and faster server, it seems we've broken the forum login. Until we've figured this out, the forums will have to stay read-only. Sorry about that.

Running around in circles!

When I first clicked on New Topic in this Forum -- when I had already logged in previously -- I had to go through two different logins, then was taken back to the list of forums, then had to click on this forum and on New Topic once again.

This was obviously not what I was going to post originally. That would be circular in a manner appropriate to a Robert Heinlein story.

Integrating the tracker and forum in this respect is pretty damn hard (cuz it's two separate pieces of software, technically speaking), but yeah, it would be desirable to smoothen these things out..

I'm currently working on moving our stuff to the new server -- maybe me and joeroberts can work on these things after that.

I don't think it has anything to do with the tracker or torrents vs. the forums. When I was already logged into the forums (at least it said I was logged in on the page I had just refreshed), I tried to post this reply and was asked to log in. After doing that, I got a page with URL http://onebigtorrent.org/phpBB.php?page=ucp&mode=login that said:
Access Denied

The area you are trying to access is restricted to registered users.
Please provide your access credentials and try again. If you haven't got an account, you can SIGN UP for free.

It also had a bunch of PHP error messages under the box. (Unfortunately I didn't save them, but I'll try to remember to do so next time it happens.)

After logging in again, I was taken to the main Forum page, not to where I was.

Here are the PHP error messages from a more recent login

This is definitely about the bridge between the two applications (tracker and forum). All logins are supposed to be done through the tracker (which then sets an additional cookie for the forum).

I don't have time to fix this right now (as the new server isn't ready, and we're soon going to be kicked off the old one). The best bet right now is to log in through the tracker, then go to the forums. If you don't appear to be logged in there (forum cookies expire sooner than the tracker ones, it seems), just re-log in through the tracker, and go back to the forums manually.

It's still a bit buggy, and doesn't get all things right like forwarding you to the page you came from after login. By its design, all logins are supposed to be handled by the tracker (which then sets an additional cookie for the forum). So at this point, if you get to a login page that looks forum-style, don't use it.
