Yeah, well. It's not like we haven't grappled with this. But the fact is that Google Analytics and other services like it are so widely used, we feel it wouldn't be much more than a symbolic gesture if we didn't use it. By far the most traffic we get originates from google anyway, so even if we didn't use GA, that wouldn't preclude them from knowing e.g. what page those users landed on.
Anyone concerned about this should consider using a Google Analytics opt-out browser plugin (there's an official one at
http://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout , but I'm sure there are others around too).
And on a more general online privacy note (though I'm sure you know about this already, RazOR), TOR (
http://www.torproject.org) has made a lot of progress in recent years, it's quite suitable for every day use.
