Thanks. I especially liked his directness about the absurdity of discussing the Israel lobby, as a country is dying in front of our eyes. Chomsky always has this way of looking at the bigger picture, even if we think what we are discussing is a pretty big picture. He can always broaden the scope. That is one of the things I like the most about him. He goes straight to the heart of an issue, and looks at it from the perspective of why something is being carried out.

Those were some great new videos...I love hearing Chomsky. Anything recent is always a treasure. He didn't write this article, but lent the cause his signature...

He was on mediamatters again in June 2008 . One hour radio interview by Robert McChesney - http://will.illinois.edu/mediamatters/

This has no new information for a somewhat regular reader of Chomsky. Single new opinion for me was that he believes McCain to win for president because of the Republican's smear-skills.

Very true and he does it in a simple way. He just reads what the rulers of the world read to get their mindset, but by maintaining his true love for actual democracy.

The modern world is controlled by two entities, state power and private power. In the powerful western countries, these two entities have their own literature, journals, and media which is quite honest and displays their point of views. On top of that, state power leaves behind paper trails, which is publicly available. Chomsky reads this to learn what the power structures are doing so that way he knows. I suggest we do the same and come to our own conclusions.

On a side question.......does anyone know of his health situation??? I mean lately I've seen him as kind of getting a little fat and old.........maybe he's "letting himself go"??? Anyone noticed??? Hopefully he's not having health issues at all. We need him for a long time.

I don't know his health situation, but I've also noticed he has a bigger frame now than before. Natural part of ageing perhaps? He's still writing articles and so forth, so I assume he is quite healthy still. I'm sure he has regular checkups. But I have a hunch he doesn't hold so many lectures any more. Partly because his hearing isn't what it once was, making Q&A sessions difficult. And perhaps also because holding 2-hour lectures is tough for any soon-to-be 80-year old.

Came across a video I found very interesting: Conversations with History: Noam Chomsky

Apparently it's from 2002. Chomsky first talks a great deal about his childhood and early youth, how he was influenced and what he was interested in in early in life. Later he goes into somewhat familiar territory. But instead of focusing on fairly recent events, he focuses on the long lines of history.

Unusual interview as it's a lot more personal than most.

As me you may have heard this before, but when he was 10 years old he wrote an essay on the rise of fascism in Europe. Not the normal occupation for an average 10-year old I'd say ;)

Sounds like he had a very interesting (and frightening) youth. Wish I was in such a stimulating environment as well...

Two articles on the current bust cycle:
Viewpoints: Where now for capitalism? -- BBC News, September 19, 2008
Anti-Democratic Nature of US Capitalism is Being Exposed -- Irish Times, October 10, 2008

The earlier document criticizes Clinton for his polices: "...[T]he Clinton administration repealed the Glass-Steagall act of 1933, thus freeing financial institutions "to innovate in the new economy," in Clinton's words -- and also "to self-destruct, taking down with them the general economy and international confidence in the US banking system," financial analyst Nomi Prins adds. "

In the newer document he seems to be focusing Republicans (although he bashes "both" parties here, he doesn't specifically mention Clinton): "The Political Economy of the New Gilded Age, Larry Bartels shows that during the past six decades 'real incomes of middle-class families have grown twice as fast under Democrats as they have under Republicans, while the real incomes of working-poor families have grown six times as fast under Democrats as they have under Republicans'."

Search reddit for Chomsky in recent headlines: http://www.reddit.com/search?q=chomsky& ... y=0&t=week because reading the comments on reddit are fun. You can see more comments by visiting the individual news sites that repasted the editorial. It's fun to watch the comments swerve into completely unrelated territory.

On youtube, some really dumb kid put up an interview with Noam:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3f50SrnlpA <<<---- part 1

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dt2R8JR74jQ <<<---- part 2

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwXbQiHG2Yw <<<---- part 3

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lj4XXnYW_oc <<<---- part 4

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eg9AMh_Zatk <<<---- part 5

This kid made a fool out of himself in interviewing Chomsky. Part 5 was really embarrassing, as he started asking him about heart pressure. That kid really had a great opportunity to really do something good and make a good interview but he just made of fool of himself. I felt bad for Noam and I hope he never has to go through this again.

Wow. I know this board's official policies is to hate conspiracy theories, but com-on, get real! The world is run on conspiracies!

Israel dying? Says who? Anyway, it's known the people behind the central bankers; control Israel, and the U.S. Answers the riddle, "How can a country the size of New Jersey control the government of another, much larger?" And didn't chomsky say the best time of his life was living on the Kibbutz in Israel? He is hardly someone to put the pressure on the world's first, before-they-had-their-own-country, original (i.e. well before the infamous nazi, and directly connected subsequent nation-state) separatist, racially-oriented regime for, as a road sign there reads, "Jews Only".

The letter from the historic palestine jewish community in charge, when it's peace with the muslim and christian populations was in jeopardy, told the criminals to get lost - that they would manage their own affairs. The response to them was something like "I built Israel, and I will determine what happens with it", e.g. bugger-off.

So when we ask the question, "Where is Chomsky?", when he is 'most needed', the answer is clear: He is an old professor, who will retire with some fiat currency - which I am absolutely sure he has converted the bulk into something more permanent - in comfort, without trouble. I think he did, at most, what he could - without testing the core system of the powers-that-be. In the worst, he deluded an awful lot of people. He is an old guy, with family, additionally with racial, so-called religious, obligations. He is not dumb, and I'm sure he would like to retire in peace, and pass on his prosperity to his children and grandchildren.

You all need to get off the 'Where is Chomsky?' band-wagon and think for yourselves, so you can retire one day, healthy, with children and grandchildren - before the bankers steal away what is left of your civilization.

speaking of israel and chomsky here's his opinions related to the current bombing missions: operation cast lead: http://www.zcommunications.org/znet/viewArticle/20316

@rubber-duck this thread on onebigtorrent lists some things that are excluded from chomsky.info for what ever reason. (i'm assuming it hasn't been updated because of someone's laziness) its useful for purposes other than to think exactly the same way as him.
