People of the Shining Path Documentary on the Communist Party of Peru (Partido Comunista de Per) called the "Shining Path" (Sendero Luminoso) by the media. Re-released on VHS by: The Committee to Support the Revolution in Peru http://www.csrp.org Ripped from VHS to DVD Video_TS (960.8 MB) 'A "must see" video Documentary of the revolution in Peru' 'For the first time a television crew has brought out footage and interviews from base areas of the revolution in Peru, where indigenous communities in the Andes are governed by People's Committees. The video shows interviews and scenes from Lima's Canto Grande prison filmed just a month before government forces unleashed a vicious attack that killed over 40 political prisoners. Peasants in the countryside and workers in Lima's shantytowns explain the unjust and harsh conditions, and guerillas tell their own story of the march toward nationawide seizure of power. the documentary also gets into the U.S. military's role in Peru. This relatively honest and sympathetic view of the revolution was shown once on British TV in 199(1/2?). In the U.S. it was heavily censored and twisted to become an attack on the revolution before it was allowed to air.'

Which version is this, the British or American?

Isn't it obvious that it's the uncensored original British version? Why else would the CSRP release it?

Clearly, it is not obvious from the description or I would not have asked the question.

The Shining Path is a burtal group. Their is nothing revolutionary about them.
Their killings of non-marxist/lenists and any other leftist or peasent that did not follow their "path" are well documented.

Also see Human Rights Watch reports of the brutality, finding that more killings were committed by the Shining Path than by the corrupt and capitalist government. An achievement considering the brutality of the US backed Army in Peru.

1) This is captured from a UK Channel 4 Dispatches program.
2) The quality of the video and audio capture is very poor!
3) The DVD files don't work. At least they didn't work for me using the Mac's DVD Player. I was able to play the actual video file (VTS_01_1.VOB) using programs that play it as an MPEG file without using the DVD structure.
4) I'm certainly not uncritical of the PCP-Sendero Luminoso, but I also wouldn't trust the evaluation of a pro-imperialist Human Rights group like HRW.

1) As I noted above, the DVD navigation files don't work properly. I've created new ones that allow the user to just play the video without using a buggy and purposeless menu. The replacement .IFO files are at and the corresponding .BUP files are, as usual, just renamed duplicates of these.

2) A DivX version of the same poor-quality VHS capture is available for direct download (not a torrent) at . If you want to watch it on a computer, it probably makes more sense to get this one.
