Ok, I had uploaded a torrent for this documentary here before but it turned out to be non-English. I sincerely apologize for that - I had run into the documentary on a public site and the description had stated it was English, and I decided to upload the torrent here immediately rather than waiting for later after I had personally downloaded it to ensure I wouldn't forget to upload it. It was only after uploading it here that I discovered it was in another language. Sorry about that, once again. What better way to learn about the Middle East conflict than from the eyes of the children living there? Plot Summary 1 -------------- What is it really like to live in Jerusalem today? PROMISES offers touching and surprisingly fresh insight into the Middle East conflict when filmmaker B.Z. Goldberg returns to his hometown to see what seven children Palestinian and Israeli think about war, peace and just growing up. Living within 20 minutes of each other, these children are nevertheless locked in separate worlds. Through candid interviews, the film explores a legacy of distrust and bitterness, but signs of hope emerge when some of the children dare to cross the checkpoints to meet one another. Plot Summary 2 -------------- Several Jewish and Palestinian children are followed for three years and put in touch with each other, in this alternative look at the Jewish-Palestinian conflict. The three filmmakers followed a group of seven local children between 1995 and 1998. They all have a totally different background. These seven children tell their own story about growing up in Jerusalem. Through this portrait of their generation, we see how deep rooted and almost insoluble the problems of the Middle East have become. When the protagonists speak out in an epilogue a couple of years later, it becomes apparent that all have lost their childlike innocence. "Promises" is a shiny and wonderful documentary about the conflicts between Israel and Palestine showed by children. It's extraordinary to see them talking about the conflicts: they repeat their parents' opinion until the director B.Z. suggests a meeting. Some agree; others no. And the great moment of "Promises" is their meeting, when they're just kids: playing, eating, laughing, talking, crying... That meeting waves to peace.
