Thanks for posting this. The media framed it as if Syria are finally willing to talk of peace, as if they never were. Now let's see if Israel are willing, as they (practically) never have been.

I'd like to see the whole interview. There were parts not covered on Newsnight that were covered on the News at Ten. Assad conducts himself very well indeed and rejects most of Simpsons assertions. Assertions like Syria allowing weapons to go to Hezbollah and allowing insurgents to pass into Iraq. Assad makes it clear in this interview that he supports the concept of resistance to occupation and the support is political in nature. Simpson nor the studio made any effort to prove their assertions - just stated them as fact. So the viewer is still confused. Who to believe? The trusted bbc or the axis of evil dictator who doesn't have to worry about an electorate. Saying that, it could have been much worse, it usually is.
