Backlight 2011 Money & Speed: Inside the Black Box
Money & Speed: Inside the Black Box is a documentary thriller which takes us to the heart of our automated financial world. Through interviews with those directly involved and data visualisations on the millisecond time-scale, this is a reconstruction of the fastest and deepest drop in the American stock markets ever.
Money & Speed: Inside the Black Box reconstructs the flash crash which occurred on May 6th 2010. At 14:42:44 hours and 75 milliseconds the American stock markets crashed at unknown speeds, only to return to their former levels after 20 minutes. With a detailed reconstruction we expose the inner dynamic of a rapidly changing financial world which influences everyone's lives and living conditions. The futuristic thriller uncovers a global financial system which from a network of regulated trading floors changed into a network of black boxes. A network which is opaque and where trading happens at the speed of light. A network which has become a machine-controlled organism with no one at the helm.
It's not just the average person who doesn't know what happens inside these black boxes, even upper management and the regulators have no idea. In talking with those directly involved and with a detailed visual analysis of the trade data of the flash crash we not only want to look inside these black boxes to try to understand what exactly goes on but also tell a contemporary tale of the relationship between man, market and machine.

Thanks for this, I've been following VPROInternational's youtube channel for some time, lots of great docus there, but it seems they haven't posted this in English yet. great stuff!
