I have nothing but admiration for the folks occupying that park, but the repeating-everything-a-speaker-says is just killing me. For god's sake, a couple of weeks in you should have a PA system.

Well my take would be that repeating everything Herb says would give me stomach upset.

Maybe this time around he'll have one of his media analogies as to how the Occupy Movement is like Mary Tyler Moore throwing her beret in the air (the opening shots in New York) on the old Mary Tyler Moore Show.

Herb (I refuse to try to spell his name with all the diacritical marks) is part of the establishment whether you realize it or not.

Out here in Appleton, Wisconsin US we turned out 250 participants in the day of rage with some ongoing actions. The reactionary rednecks running the businesses and the barflies at city center did not know much of what to make of it. Eventually a real action such as divestment or boycott could change all that.

cheers

Wait, I just remembered something. In the 80's in the early days of American style punk, Husker Du ripped off the MTM theme song on their album The Land Speed Record. Smile

It's the same system they had in Egypt, at least for much of the time there. Think it is quite an excellent system too. It involves people more than just standing there listening, and it gets around financial and 'legal' constraints. I don't know about this case, but often the police will not allow PA systems. This gets around that issue.

I really hope they will get somewhere with these protests. Tough time ahead though, as the weather is getting colder.

I really should revist the film "The Life Of Brian" which shows the rapt followers of Brian repeating everything he says. This was the first thought Michael Moore came up with and I had forgotten.

We used the People's Mic here in the Midwest in WI at a small rally. I was going to say one day, but it turns out I've been with the group on the corner in front of Chase Bank two days and have suggested additional actions.

FYI a good source of coverage from the edge is that given by Laurie Penny who is British and has been to OWS and appeared on the Democracy Now show when in NYC. I follow her writing in The New Statesman (column name "In The Red") and at

http://pennyred.blogspot.com/

Look up her cover feature in The New Statesman on the student movement. I expect more features from her as well. LP is the best movement spokesman I've heard in many years.

They're using the "people's mic" because the park owners have forbidden the use of pa or bullhorns.
