Film by Elisabetta Andreoli, Gabriele Muzio and Max Pugh Filmed from the 2nd to the 11th of October 2002, this documentary narrates the origins and the actuality of the process of social and political transformation in Venezuela. It explores the underlining motives for the failed coup of 11th April 2002 and the ensuing popular reaction that reinstated the Constitutional Government in the country. Venezuela represents today the only country where a democratically elected government has chosen an autonomous path, away from the dogma of globalisation and neo-liberalism and chosen instead to further the interests of its people starting from the weakest sections of society. The film is a vigorous and moving tribute to the political consciousness and the determination to defend democracy justice and peace of the people of Venezuela. It tells the story of a different world which is not just POSSIBLE but EXISTS in reality. London TIME OUT Review and Critic's Choice 23 April 2003: "This lucid and wide ranging doc shot in 10 days last October (but speaking with an authority and access far greater then the time frame might suggest) is intended as a tribute to the political consciousness and determination of the people of Venezuela. The Latin American nation with the world's 5th largest oil reserves is currently facing a situation that feels like a re-run of Chile a generation earlier, with the US implicated in an anti-reformist campaign against the elected government of president Chavez. Talking to activists, community organisations and observers across the country, the film makers impressively demonstrate how to fill the gaps left by the mainstream media's failures of coverage and how a country might build a new, just and workable society form the ground up (Gareth Evans)" 86 minutes - November 2002 Size 2.8G Spanish.
