King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia described the US military presence in Iraq as 'illegitimate' during the opening of the summit meeting of Arab leaders in Riyadh this week.

The Saudi monarch's choice of words in describing the US presence in Iraq is regarded by many observers as unprecedented since Saudi Arabia is normally a staunch US ally, and one which quietly aided the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq.

Does such a high-level chastisement reflect a common view at the Arab Summit regarding the US role in Iraq? Will Arab concerns make any difference to US policy and thinking on Iraq?
