A 12 year old boy is sold by his mother for �25 to a fisherman in Ghana. The boy
will spend his childhood diving to disentangle nets in the murky waters of Lake
Volta. In Saudi Arabia, a six year old boy who has been trafficked into the country
from Yemen, in order to beg on the streets for a gang master, is picked up by the
Saudi authorities and deported. Meanwhile in Cambodia, a 17 year old girl recalls
her horrific life as a sex slave, sold to a brothel aged 12. These are just three
of the lives encountered in this special documentary looking at the extraordinary,
global story of child slavery today,

Around the globe, slavery is big business. An estimated 8.4 million children are
enslaved today worldwide and they are bought and sold as commodities. They work 18
hour days in sweatshops, break rocks in mines, are mutilated to work as street
beggars and are sold into brothels. They are unpaid, often beaten or abused and
have no freedom.

Now, in a remarkable journey across three continents, reporter Rageh Omaar sets out
to discover what contemporary slavery is and why, in one of the most prosperous times
in history, there are still slave children. In a journey that takes him from his
homeland in Somaliland to the streets of Addis Ababa in Ethiopia, Rageh meets
children who are living on the edge � children whose stories prompt him to reflect
on "child slavery" today.

In addition to his own encounters, Rageh presents five extraordinary stories of
children from around the world, all of whom share their experiences of slavery in
their own words: a small boy in a gold mine high in the Andes; child fishermen on
the perilous waters of Lake Volta in Ghana; a Yemeni child begging on the streets
of Jeddah; a Cambodian girl working as a sex slave in a Phnom Penh brothel; and two
young Indian cousins working in Delhi's illegal sweatshops.
