Despite eliciting worldwide support during its decades long liberation struggle, for what it said would be a non-racist, democratic South Africa, where all would be equal - Al Jazeera discovers that the African National Congress government has recreated what some might characterize as a new form of discrimination in its Black Empowerment policies.
The program shows that the social safety net of white privilege in the former apartheid system that pampered on the basis of white skin now demonstrates indifference towards any whites in a downward spiral towards hitting bottom.
(The original poster of this torrent states “There were always 'lower working class' white people (blue collar workers) - and just because apartheid was in place, this did not mean that automatically, every white person lived a rich lifestyle. To even suggest this, is to be rewriting reality and history - and perhaps trying to reduce sympathy for this segment of the population, who are being turned into beggars.
“So what you're seeing in this program - are the formerly, always struggling, lower-working-class white people, who've now been effectively blocked from the already menial low-grade jobs, that they were doing before democracy came.”
“Note the clear delight in the various interviewed black South Africans, at the situation for this strata of working class whites, who've lost what little they had. As well as the anger from a Government minister, when asked the fairly obvious questions about 'what happened to the promises of a non-racially based society'.”
See if you agree.

Actually the "social safety net" for the unemployed never existed neither for anyone in South Africa. In South Africas apartheid past there was no need for it, since there was no unemployment under the Europeans it would only benefit Africans (not my opinion but the apartheid governments view). Now with 25.5% unemployment (2006 est. CIA factbook) i'm not sure the current government can afford a social safety net.
What remains is the claim that the current governement is racist because of it's affirmative action policy. A very weak claim in my opinion.

There is massive unemployment because the Apartheid-in-Blackface ANC government has been imposing draconian neo-liberal policies that the white government never could have gotten away with. While a small segment of the white working class has lost under the new regime, the main losers have been the Black working class.
Of course, the abolition of overt racial discrimination is a good thing taken in isolation, but it didn't occur in isolation! It was part of a deal in which the Black middle class, led by the ANC, became the new and better enforcers of white-dominated imperialist-capitalist exploitation.
(I've read that the difference between European and Black income levels has actually increased, despite the gains made by the Black middle class. I'm pretty sure this is true but, since I haven't verified it yet, I'm not including it in my main argument.)

There is plenty stuff going on in South Africa to be critical of, however Al Jazeera's Witness doesn't address any of it. Instead it tries to prove the current government is racist because of it's affirmative action program. I'm not saying the ANC government is "good". I'm just saying who ever claims affirmative action to be racist has a weak case.

If you are white and you want to greater understand racism -this is for you. I suspect Al Jazera enjoyed the race reversal.
After all! that is the point of this report.
