BBC Hardtalk - neo-con Richard Perle 2007-11-23 mpeg4

Stephen Sackur talks to Richard Perle, prominent, neo-con ideolog and former Pentagon adviser.

The US military invasion of Iraq in March 2003 represented the triumph of an assertive and ambitious ideology, so-called Neo-Conservatism. American military power could remake the world, and in particular the Middle East as a safer, more democratic place. Four years on and many of the Bush administration's senior advisers have moved on. Richard Perle was one of them. Does he believe that the age of the Neo-Cons has come to an end?

(Glaringly obvious is Perle’s repeated connecting of 911 as the primary imperative for American action to eliminate Saddam. The interviewer lets this go, we may assume because it is such an apparent defect of logic to waste precious time on, and only if you are dumber than a stump would you miss it. S.)

It's always been a mystery to me how Perle managed to exercise so much influence in the US government and the Pentagon in particular. In this interview he's just as feebleminded and handwaiving as he'd been in his debate with Chomsky decades ago. Good to know that he and his ilk have been relegated to the dustbin of history. Why Sackur invited this loser for an interview is beyond me - he had absolutely nothing incisive or insightful to say. The only positive message one can take away from this tedious 24 min production is that neoconservativism in general and Perle in particular are more than passe.
