The most amazing show I've ever attended - Jello Biafra over the summer of 2006, he spoke for 4 hours at a local skate park - Extreme Wheels in Buffalo, NY - to a crowd of only 20 or 30 people. He entered in a judges gown and cop sunglasses, and proceded to go through what became track 4 on Psalm I, "Ass Clowns In Toyland."
Then he took off the facade, opened up to the audience, asked kids questions about the performance and about the state of the city of Buffalo - which to my amazement, he knew all about local, unheard of politics and scandals! The rest of the show he had a table full of notecards and pieces of his past decade or so of material, and at the discretion of the audience, and "what we felt like talking about," he picked up notes and just went with the flow. Most of the material Jello covered is in this, his latest spoken word album.
In The Grip Of Official Treason
If you like what you hear, check out Alternative Tentacles or somewhere online and order the album, it's amazing! The packaging alone is worth the price, if you remember the artwork Jello did for Dead Kennedys albums, this spoken word release comes with a very sentimental also incendiary foldout done in the same newspaper cut-out collage style. Support the underground. The desolate and without purpose are almost innately in-debt to support you... I remember during the show, a bunch of passerby's who couldn't afford tickets to get in to the indoor park were seen sitting outside - which was just a cracked open door away - listening keenly to Jello do his life's work - learning, I swear, more than 4 years of high school could have possibly taught them about the uncovered workings of their military-industrial government and perpetually stoned society.
