In the first of the HARDtalk America series, Stephen Sackur talks to one of the US's foremost civil rights, religious and political figures, the Reverend Jesse Jackson Sr.



He campaigned for the Democrat Presidential nomination in 1984 and 1988.



Barack Obama has acknowledged that if he succeeds it will be because he is standing on the shoulders of Rev Jackson and others of the civil rights generation.



But Rev Jackson has been slow to back Obama's candidacy and has criticisms of his campaign.



Being very close personal friends with Hillary & Bill Clinton, who will he support?
