Farmers are fighting for their land against one of south-east Asia's biggest food conglomerates .It's said that 250 elite families effectively run the Philippines, exercising almost total control over all political and economic decisions.

In December, a group of farmers in southern Mindanao province rose up to challenge that power, marching 1700 kilometres to Manila in protest at the actions of San Miguel Corporation, Southeast Asia's largest food and beverage conglomerate, run by the Cojuangco family, one of the most powerful in the Philippines.

The farmer's David and Goliath struggle typifies a political and economic system which is holding the country back, leading to the "Myanmarization" of  the country which, four decades ago was touted as the new Japan.

While this is worth watching for those interested in social struggles in the Philippines, it doesn't offer much in the way of insight into the broader struggles and movements there. It doesn't even mention the mass worker and peasant movements, and certainly not the New People's Army, which, for better or worse, is -- along with its allies -- the only meaningful opposition to semi-feudal Philippine capitalism and its imperialist patrons.

The quality of the YouTube version isn't great, but I can't see much to be gained by wasting upload bandwidth on a larger, though probably better, copy.

I think the interviewees are under pressure not to say too much...they might disappear. These other movements are out there and struggling so I presume a limited presentation draws attention to the country. BTN.

Without making it into a torrent nobody would even fing know it was there.. capesh? Wish I had a better source for Al-J...if you do please help out.
