Quilapayún - ¡El Pueblo Unido Jamás Será Vencido!

Quilapayún are Nueva Canción Chilena artists exiled after the military coup of September 11, 1973 overthrowing socialist president Salvador Allende. The songs are about that struggle, other one's, and other traditional themes. The title song, ¡El Pueblo Unido Jamás Será Vencido! was originally written by Sergio Ortega as a march in support of the Allende's Popular Unity government. The governement was overthrown and the murderous military dictatorship of Pinochet was established, acting in accord with the plans of the US government for the region. Nevertheless, Quilapayún's music is hopeful.
