On October 17th, 2008, Naomi Klein spoke at the Rio Theatre in Santa Cruz about her new book: The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism. In The Shock Doctrine, Naomi Klein explodes the myth that the global free market triumphed democratically. Exposing the thinking, the money trail and the puppet strings behind the world-changing crises and wars of the last four decades, The Shock Doctrine is the gripping story of how America’s “free market” policies have come to dominate the world -- through the exploitation of disaster-shocked people and countries.

Note: The short documentary "The Shock Doctrine" by Naomi Klein and Alfonso Cuarón was shown before her talk watch here: http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=17602059 or here:

This might be *the* best Naoli Klein speech on the Shock Doctrine. Even more engaged than the one from Chicago broadcast by Democracy Now.

Prob'ly the best remark in it is her incredulity at Greenspan saying that he was not aware that bankers could be liars.

I can also recommend Catherine Austin Fitts and her commentaries both online at Solari.com and regular appearances on the Pacifica archive via their news program called Flashpoints. Today is Wednesday. She should be on there when the program is mounted for archive around 9 pm CST, US.
