Trails from the East heads to the "Land of the Ayatollahs" with a train journey from the Pakistani-Iranian border via Zahedan, Kerman to Tehran. In the train are young Iranians, speaking about their relationship with the regime. A traveller tells of mosques, empty in protest against the repressive policies of the Ayatollahs. In Tehran we meet the veiled female race car driver Lale Seddigh. Then we head to Istanbul - veils and burkas disappear at once as soon as the Iranian train crosses the Turkish border. Everything that is illegal, like alcohol, card games, singing and being unveiled, comes out in the train as soon as Iran is behind them.
