A pleasant introduction into the 'rules of the political game':
'Yes Minister' is a classical British comedy which follows the exploits of a minister,
James Hacker, who has to wrestle with the civil service to get his way as his
permanent secretary Sir Humphrey Appleby has decades of experience in how to
manipulate politicians to do what he and his colleagues think is best (for themselves).
The realism and the ideas in this comedy were fuelled by the quite frank and honest
insider account of Richard Crossman in his 'The Diaries of a Cabinet Minister'.
Even today, decades after it was first broadcast, many things still ring true (unfortunately).
