news to me. But Ed Garvey is on the public radio regularly here. He has the Fighting Bob Fest held annually in September that gets a lot of the big players in the Progressive circuit. Bobfest is just that: a shindig.

But I have to say that things are far from coming together here.

It's hard to go through all the ways that one finds this stuff but the tune mentioned above started with Catherine Austin Fitts at solari.com.

About the Howard Zinn, I just viewed it. As we say in Wisconsin, "what a character." Even that means different things to different people here.

When I say not much change has come, recently I have noted the hypocrisy of many on the mass transit bandwagon. There is no issue on which the local folk cannot put the brakes (so to speak.)

In the end though, they have little to jump about. Bandits don't jump, they retire.

Mr. Zinn makes a compelling, albeit one-sided, case for the philosophy of pacifism.

Ultimately there is not a lot of room for justification of human death, injury, or physical suffering, except in the sole case of self-defense.

I think if Mr. Zinn were making a more honest appraisal of history, he would be forced to recognize that the most reliable source of violent aggression is from a group of people defending their privilege.

While it is absolutely preferable to win a conflict without violence, I find a absolute belief in pacifism somewhat naive -- especially in the context of class warfare. Class warfare inherently involves the stripping of privilege, which engenders violence.

Is an unusually high rate of disease from the externality of pollution, of suffering and ignorance from an unfair structure of economic power, the denial of life and liberty for property crimes, the denial of life from lack of health care, and the rest of the implications of capitalism...is this not violence in the most immediate sense?

Zinn makes a strong point with the "uncertainty" of results, but if there is a "certainty" of exploitation and violence regardless of action, is this not a moot point? Is there not uncertainty when cook breakfast in the morning, or drive to work, or anything else?

I admire the nobility of the idea, and eloquence of the presentation, however I think that a mixed strategy almost always prevails. And taken as rote, his ideas are nothing more than slave morality and fatalism playing in the robes of altruism.
