Mike has created sustainable communities worldwide. He started in Taos New Mexico and the world will soon change. Using recycled materials, solar/wind power, passive heat gained through sunlight, water harvesting, tropical gardens to recycle waste; these earthships take pressure off people and the planet. No power/sewer lines in or out of these structures. Mike's works are intense, but incredible adobe homes. A modern cave.

If you have your own shelter, power, heat, food, with no mortgage, then you are absolutely free .. A life without bills ..

What do beer cans, car tires and water bottles have in common? Not much unless you're renegade architect Michael Reynolds, in which case they are tools of choice for producing thermal mass and energy-independent housing. For 30 years New Mexico-based Reynolds and his green disciples have devoted their time to advancing the art of "earthship biotecture" by building self-sufficient, off-the-grid communities where design and function converge in eco-harmony. Shot over three years and in four different countries, Garbage Warrior is a timely portrait of a determined visionary, a hero of the 21st century.

BTW check out his website. Many resources on display for all climates.

very worthy film. full of rich ideas. inspiring and very unconventional, even unconventional participation in american instituions, very unusual for projects with leftist overtones.

I think a lot of the architectural premises suggested in this film could be of use in utility and agricultural buildings. In many places there are precedents for non-permanent structures that would allow these sorts of structures to be used. It's application in non-residential structures could be invaluable.

I personally plan to use some of this information in a future permacultural farm.

Fairly funny since these construction methods would be welcomed in many different international neighborhoods, not just hurricane stricken India.

A great documentary about an inspirational architect and group of sustainable housing artists.
