History Channel Sun Tzu's The Art Of War

All warfare is based on deception. Therefore, when capable of attacking, feign incapacity; when active in moving troops, feign inactivity. When near the enemy, make it seem that you are far away; when far away, make it seem that you are near. – Sun Tzu.

Sun Tzu was the Nostradamus of warfare, and his book The Art of War, written 2,400 years ago, is still theArt of War weaves together several epic stories, including the story of Sun Tzu himself, and a war soon after his death where a city is saved using his tactics as China takes the first step toward unification. ultimate how-to book for winning. This two-hour special brings his words to life. Shot like a graphic novel, Art of War weaves together several epic stories, including the story of Sun Tzu himself, and a war soon after his death where a city is saved using his tactics as China takes the first step toward unification.

Art of War also follows other epic battles in history—Roman battles, The American Civil War, World War II, and present day—that illustrate more of Sun Tzu’s lessons and how the people who understand his strategy are the most dangerous weapons of all. While his ideals were originally created for battle, his lessons could be used by anyone who wants to win—whether at sports, business, or life.

i don't know anything because i haven't posted anything? I do watch a lot from this site...but...history channel producing an 'art of war' special...

how asian people fought almost 500 years ago. it's totally irrelevant, i actually listened this audiobook a couple years ago, the art of war, it was totally useless with nothing practical to be applied to now & here.

what i'm trying to say is that it doesn't fit in with the things normally hosted on this site.

sorry it's 2400 year old*

further expands my point.

That is bullshit, nothing is relevant to sports, business or life, nothing is gonna help you win here.

sorry.

remember that movie where tom cruise dressed up like a sumarai? that's about on the same level as this, pure fantasy, it doesn't fit this site is all i'm sayin'.

I'll be the judge of that. My review: pending, but I expect their to be implicit assumptions buttressing a bourgeois world view since it is history channel, but possibly entertaining as well. If it does in fact focus on history, we must remember that "all history is a history of class struggle." dialectic materialism.

1. I didn't swear at you

2. You must be really young or really naive.

3. This is mandatory reading for all Harvard business students and military academies. Colin Powell based most of The Powell Doctrine on "The Art of War"

4. This sites is for learning information and one of the topics is war. Specifically Peaceful protests of war. If your going to protest or debate, you need to understand both sides.

5. These techniques are used by corporations and militaries around the world.

colin powell is a war criminal.

universities are meaningless.

there's nothing to be learned.

non-violent protests are ineffective.

I DEFINITELY WANT TO WATCH A HISTORY CHANNEL'S INTERPRETATION IF MILITARIES & CORPORATIONS LIKE IT!

What's that old piece of advice for folks like you: "Better to keep your mouth shut and let everyone think you're a fool than to open it and remove all doubt?"

I have no doubts about you, Mr BenjaminLaird.

The book and its strategies can be used by people under many different circumstances. I have actually used some of its strategies for preparing my HS wrestlers. It was plagiarized by Mao in his Little Red Book, and it was supposedly known to and used by Genghis Khan and Napoleon. James Clavell also used it in his book Noble House.

Military commanders, businessmen, and even community organizers can benefit from the timeless ideas found in this book.

I have not seen the show under discussion. You can attack the show for a failure to accurately present the ideas of the book, but to attack the book itself only reveals your ignorance.
Sep 07 2009, 07:30 CEST
what ideas?! name one!

obviously I AM ATTACKING it because it's from history t.v.

&

it doesn't fit this site, this is a decent site full of radical ideas & doesn't need to be diluted with made-for-t.v. junk

@ BenjaminLaird
1. If you don't like it, don't download it!
2. scuddymud has made the effort to post this. The least you can do is be polite, even if the show is not to your taste.

you can find clips of this on youtube - it is interesting, i'd say. but the book is more worth reading.

understanding the difference between tactics and strategy is always important to radicals (and too often confused by radicals) - Sun Tzu understood this and that's what his book is about.

Yahhhr, the book is short too, something which might appeal to your sensibilities (Benjamin.) Smile YAHRRRR!!!!!

You know what they say, life is what you make of it, dont let it make of you other wise you end up a cynical hammer from out of Satan's tool box Smile YAHRRRRR YAHHRRRRR Smile
