CNN - Amanpour September 27 2009
(CNN) -- On "Amanpour" this Thursday, Christiane Amanpour sits down for an exclusive live interview with the President of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe.
In Mugabe's first interview with a major Western network in years, Christiane will explore the historic power-sharing agreement with the unity government there, and get the president's thoughts on the highly-emotive issue of land redistribution.
As Mugabe prepares to take center stage at the United Nations on Friday, Christiane will take the opportunity to ask if the power-sharing agreement in Zimbabwe is really working, if international sanctions are responsible for his country's economic and political turmoil, and what kind of engagement he is looking for from the international community.
In this rare interview, Christiane will also address signs of optimism emerging in Zimbabwe; sky-rocketing inflation stabilizing, basic goods returning to store shelves, and a loosening of restrictive media laws.

why do I get the feeling this is just going to be the bourgeois media assassinating an anti-colonialist figure? Probably by focusing on the corruption and greed of said figure, which was humorously learned from the imperialist powers.

Christiane Amanpour = CNN's most pompous 'News Personality'
Most of the 'documentaries' branded under her name are renamed and re-edited docus by other people.
I think program is just her egotistical attempt to catch up with Fareed Zakaria's GPS program - which is certainly CNN's most intelligent and most worldly show. Which is a pretty sad statement if you think about it.

Well I don't know about all that.. I certainly despise CNN and Christian Amanpour... You're going to get a very limited viewpoint of the world through their eyes. It's just the typical American media propaganda machine. Most of their worldview is filtered through a pro-American, pro-Israeli wordview with basic assumptions that the West, American and Israel are all by default "good" and always have "noble intentions".
But having said, and while I'm all for understanding the history of Western colonialism in Africa and elsewhere, and blaming the West when they're blameworthy but Mugabe is responsible for his own corruption and crimes. His "anti-colonial" posture is just an excuse for his corrupt, murderous military-junta to rob the country blind and ensure their comfortable lifestyle at the top at the expense of the long-suffering population of Zimbabwe. Let's not turn into the caricature of an anti-imperialist leftist by excusing the crimes of people like Mugabe and for example, the Arab corrupt elites running their countries such as Saudi Arabia, Syria Egypt, Jordan, etc into the ground, and remaining weak and pathetic in the process, allowing the US and Israel to dominate the region and slaughter as many Arabs and Muslims as they want in the pursuit of their interests.
There is certainly a lot of blame that can be laid on the feet of the West, but that shouldn't be a "get out of jail free" card to excuse the behaviour of corrupt, murderous leaders like Mugabe.

redjade,
because I'm a sadist, and because I like to monitor how the American media operates so I can point to the glaring omissions and selective reporting on the American media, I watch Fareed Zakaria's GPS program pretty regularly.. and believe me, there's very little redeeming value in it. It's a very limited worldview, filtered through the American ruling class elites and smug, Anglo-American propagandists that Zakaria regularly invites on the show, e.g, war-criminal Henry Kissienger, that apologist for the British Empire, Niall Ferguson, Leslie Gelb, etc.
Zakaria is a sycophant, and an apologist for the American empire and for American power, not to mention Israel. He knows where his bread is buttered. While he's not one of those insane, NeoCon war-mongers, he's more in the mold of a NeoLiberal apologist for American power, who believes firmly in the benevolence of American power, only that it should be exercised more wisely.
Do not trust anyone who rises at the top of the American propaganda machine. I only watch these people so I can keep track of the propaganda they disseminate.

I agree with you all.
I would add that I freely admit I am walking dangerously close to excusing the poor behavior of Mugabe. I will not say anything definitive, only suggest that he learned his attitudes from the country's former masters.
