Born Rich (2003)

Born Rich is a 2003 documentary about the experience of growing up as a child in one of the world's richest families. It was created by Jamie Johnson, heir to the Johnson & Johnson fortune. The video had two versions, an American one which is shown in America only, and a worldwide one. The American one included the fortunes of the Anderson Family, but this was edited out of the worldwide version at the family's request.

It was purchased by HBO. The film was described as "a documentary on children of the insanely rich, directed by one of their own, Johnson & Johnson Inc. heir Jamie Johnson." It consists primarily of Johnson interviewing his friends and peers about the experience of living life free of financial constraints. These interviews are offset by Johnson's exploration of his own experience and family. Jamie's uncle is screenwriter and novelist Dirk Wittenborn, whom Jamie credits with encouraging him to make a documentary about the experience of wealthy children.

The documentary was nominated for two Emmy Awards[1] including 'Outstanding Directing for Nonfiction Programming' for the director, Jamie Johnson. The other nomination was in the category 'Outstanding Nonfiction Special' for the producers: Sheila Nevins (executive producer), Dirk Wittenborn (produced by) and Jamie Johnson (producer).

Born Rich features interviews with:

* Ivanka Trump, daughter of real estate tycoon Donald Trump
* S.I. Newhouse IV, heir to the Condé Nast Publications fortune and grandson of Samuel Irving

Newhouse, Jr.
* Josiah Hornblower, of the Vanderbilt and Whitney families
* Georgina Bloomberg, daughter of New York mayor and media mogul Michael Bloomberg
* Stephanie Ercklentz, "finance heiress"
* Cody Franchetti, heir to Milliken & Co
* Luke Weil, heir to the Autotote gaming empire
* Christina Floyd, "professional sports heiress", daughter of golfer Raymond Floyd
* Carlo von Zeitschel, wealthy European who falsely claimed to be a titled descendant of Kaiser

Wilhelm II, a German baron and an Italian viscount.
* Juliet Hartford, A&P heiress, daughter of Huntington Hartford

Luckily I already saw this one, that'll save me another hour.

I would recommend this documentary and particularly the follow-up ('The One Percent') to my friends if I had any left, I'm so completely addicted to these docs that I don't see my friends any more. Anybody else with that situation?

Yeah Billy, I know what you mean. The only people more hooked on torrents than us, are the moderators. I turned off my TV 5 years ago. Now I have a documentary collection of over 2 terabytes and that's just the stuff I've kept over the years. I've probably deleted 10x that much. But I can't stop, I love torrents!! As far as friends go I still have a bunch. But if I wanna make new friends I just go and meet activists and organizers in my community. I usually have great conversations with really nice and smart people. I'm not much of an activist, but I will go every couple of months and attend a peace protest against the wars and against all wars/occupations in general. I've been attending these since I was 7 and I'm 32 now, I will always be against war, not "self defense", war/occupation.

Scuddymud, you're killing me Wink, it's like you post more interesting material than can be humanly watched, or I can either quit my job or give up sleeping hours. I hope you're exaggerating on the factor 10 part..

I'm going to reduce my intake. First target: One doc per day including weekends + democracy now.

Right On Billy! I guess on average, because I've seen my monthly download and upload numbers. I average out 75GB down & 40 up. Now multiply that by five years. So I've probably deleted half. Most of this documentaries and TV with a few movies.

Democracy Now is great. I usually watch The Real News first and then Democracy Now. I guess I do spend too much time on the computer and I haven't watched everything I have stored. About 3/4. Peace Billy!!
