Is It Better to be Mixed Race?~Science's Last Taboo 2009 11 02 Ch 4

389.61 MB/ 47:43./ XviD

Before 1967, it was illegal in 16 American states for a black person and white person to marry.

Right-wing groups on both sides of the Atlantic continue to espouse that the mixing of races is destructive and against some kind of natural order. Aarathi Prasad, a geneticist and mother of a mixed-race child, sets out to challenge the science of racial purity, as part of the Race: Science's Last Taboo season, and examines provocative claims that there are in fact biological advantages to being mixed race.

It's a controversial subject that has aroused much opposition from both ends of the political spectrum, but does greater genetic diversity confer advantages in humans, as seen in the breeding of plants and animals, or are lifestyle and environment the primary influences?

Thanks, interesting subject. But. Still this is racist propaganda.

Try to make similar claims with as small amount of evidence about any single race and... you'll figure out what I mean. The claim is way too bold.

On avarage there is likely a slight health benefit from having parents with more different genome. But if one is unlucky she'll get genes for a particular desease from both parents disregard of their race. And good + bad genes hardly is better than good + good for any property, again disregand of race. For example two musical parents is better than one.

Sure I support the political aim: we should get rid of discrimination against mixed race people and racism in general. But, I do not like the method.

The question is only valid if you even believe in the concept of different races. Kinda hard not to in just about all human cultures though.

On second thought, people evolved/adapted to the climate and landscape they lived in. In today's fly & drive anywhere world of air conditioned comfort it doesn't matter. Yet if we were suddenly thrusted back into the stone age one wonders how the people with atypical traits for a particular region would fair. Of course climate change might make everything irrevelent. I know as a tall skinny white guy I would shizzering my ass off in the Arctic Circle, and crispified in the Sahara, both in a matter of minutes.

'I know as a tall skinny white guy I would shizzering my ass off in the Arctic Circle, and crispified in the Sahara, both in a matter of minutes.'

this is why our mental ability to invent clothes for both cold and hot regions was developed - developed independently from how much Melanin has evolved to be in your skin.

evolution is not just biological.
