http://www.cbc.ca/passionateeyesunday/feature_131105.html Our Brand Is Crisis follows James Carville and a team of U.S. political consultants as they travel to South America to help Gonzalo Sanchez de Lozada (aka Goni) become President of Bolivia. The film starts with a jolt - bloody riots break out in the streets of La Paz. People throw stones at the presidential palace and call for the government's downfall. Then it flashes back a year it time, to the beginning. Goni is on the campaign trail, promising to solve Bolivia's devastating economic crisis if he is elected. Behind the scenes are the American advertising experts, doing their best to sell Goni to the people. With unprecedented access to situations that occur all the time here, but which we're never allowed to see, Our Brand Is Crisis follows detailed media coaching with the candidate, secret focus groups, and emergency ad-making sessions that alter the message to fit the moment. Following the adventure to it's surprising finish, it's a story for our time, about Americans trying to spread democracy overseas, and the riddle of what went wrong. pethr @ mvgroup wrote: "The role of American political advisers is well handled and TNC/gas problem and wide social gap is discussed but f.e. details about TNC contracts are not included. This documentary is also very good background for rise to power of Evo Morales, current president of Bolivia and the first indigenous head of country after 500 years and also for 2003 unrests."
