Booyah ka sha! Mpg video clip of Ali G. interviewing Noam Chomsky. An in-depth conversation about linguistics. I finally figured out how to extract a chapter from a DVD to an mpg file... if anyone knows of software that makes this easy (and correctly does it) please post info here.

autogk is the easiest app for copying dvd->avi. mpg is actually kinda harder. dunno what apps are good for that. tmpgenc does it well but holy hell is it hard to use.

The TMPGenc DVD author program (not the encoder) is the best I've found for stripping an mpg file from an unencrypted DVD. It's somewhat odd, but not _that_ hard to use. You start a new DVD track and just add a track from an existing DVD. The program will give you the option of saving to hard disk as an mpg. Mpeg II is the standard for DVD video encoding, so I don't understand the "kinda harder" remark in the previous post.

actually i was referring to standard tmpgenc for converting avi/etc to mpeg. i've never used tmpg dvd whatever it is.
