For Your Information (FYI) is a project initiated by a group of friends aimed at contributing to the distribution of the best of chomskytorrents.org and related material. We have collected about 200 gigabytes as of today. FYI - 3 is, of course, the third product of our work, there are more to come. Other FYI episodes can be found on www.chomskytorrents.org. Most of the documentaries in the FYI compilations have already been uploaded but since not all files remain seeded we compiled them to make this seeding task easier and also to be suitable for direct distribution on DVD. The compilation includes a few media players so there won't be any trouble viewing the content. Players included are: VLC Player, Real Player Alternative and BS Player (which supports subtitles). If you already downloaded some of the documentaries listed on this episode you can deselect the files you don't want using BitComet. Other programs support this feature as well, just check yours for it. If you are looking for additional info on the documentaries we included you can do a search for that documentary at www.chomskytorrents.org and you will find the seperate file with the info included there. Documentaries: - Blowing Up Paradise - Liberty, Equality and Radioactivity (BBC FOUR) Ben Lewis (The King of Communism, Art Safari), traces the strange history of French atomic tests in the South Pacific from the 1960s to the 90s - a story of liberty, equality and radioactivity. Thousands of Polynesian islanders were transformed from fishermen into nuclear technicians and Greenpeace activists sailed a tiny yacht into the test zone to end atmospheric testing. The film also shows how a tiny group of Tahitian radicals set up the world's only anti-nuclear resistance cell and how some former test workers from France and Tahiti now suffer from cancers that many believe are linked to fall-out from the tests. - Born Rich This is a sickening and intriguing documentary about being "born rich". The film interviews people who were born rich and will be filthy rich, no matter what they do, until the day they die. The film is done by Jamie Johnson, of the Johnson & Johnson family. It includes interviews with the Bloomberg, Trump, and other kids. Some of the interviewees later realized that they did not want this kind of publicity and sued trying to get out of the film. Yes folks, class power is alive and well in the US! Some people never have to work for a living and now, Congress and that born-a-rich-kid George Bush are doing away with the inheritance tax -- masterfully renamed the "death tax" by Republican propagandists -- so that we're doubly sure that they will be born rich and will die rich. The film has quite a few enlightening moments, and it seems that Jamie Johnson realizes that something is dreadfully wrong to allow him to live filthy rich while others work their whole lives simply to remain in poverty. But don't worry, despite the film's acknowledgement that Jamie has a semi-functional conscience, I'm sure Jamie is not about to follow Jesus' command to the rich man and give all his money away. Jamie also tries to connect with the common man, in one scene saying, "I pay retail, just like everyone else." Of course, a few minutes earlier in the film Jamie mentioned that he earns(sic) a "high-six-figure" salary simply because he was lucky enough to be "born rich". I can imagine he can afford to "pay retail" but he's certainly not like you or me. - Sir! No Sir! The GI Revolt - 2005 The story of how active-duty American GIs, in their thousands, created a massive, unprecedented movement against the war in Vietnam that could not be stopped. American documentary maker David Zeiger turns his attention to a movement he was part of - GIs against the Vietnam War. Though there has been much coverage of anti-war protests by students and civilians, the role of active servicemen, including the 500,000 who deserted over the course of the war, has been largely covered up. Zeiger has unearthed a wealth of previously unseen footage, from moving footage shot by frontline soldiers, to GI produced anti-war newspapers. The programme gained exclusive rights to several documentaries revealing Jane Fonda and Donald Sutherland's revue company performing to troops in the Far East and Fonda was persuaded to give an interview reflecting on the time. - The Corporation Since the late 18th century American legal decision that the business corporation organizational model is legally a person, it has become a dominant economic, political and social force around the globe. This film takes an in-depth psychological examination of the organization model through various case studies. What the study illustrates is that in the its behaviour, this type of "person" typically acts like a dangerously destructive psychopath without conscience. Furthermore, we see the profound threat this psychopath has for our world and our future, but also how the people with courage, intelligence and determination can do to stop it. - The Fourth World War From the front-lines of conflicts in Mexico, Argentina, South Africa, Palestine, Korea, 'the North' from Seattle to Genova, and the 'War on Terror' in New York, Afghanistan, and Iraq. It is the story of men and women around the world who resist being annihilated in this war. While our airwaves are crowded with talk of a new world war, narrated by generals and filmed from the noses of bombs, the human story of this global conflict remains untold. "The Fourth World War" brings together the images and voices of the war on the ground. It is a story of a war without end and of those who resist. The product of over two years of filming on the inside of movements on five continents, "The Fourth World War" is a film that would have been unimaginable at any other moment in history. Directed by the makers of "This Is What Democracy Looks Like" and "Zapatista", produced through a global network of independent media and activist groups, it is a truly global film from our global movement. Music from Manu Chao, Asian Dub Foundation, Mm, Moosaka, Cypher AD, DJ C for subtitles in various languages, go here: http://chomskytorrents.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=108 http://chomskytorrents.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=108 - Venezuela Bolivariana This documentary examines the Bolivarian Revolution of Venezuela and its links to the world-wide movement against capitalist globalization. The film shows the evolution of the popular movement in Venezuela from the "Caracazo" riots of 1989 to the massive actions that brought revolutionary president Hugo Chavez back to power, 48 hours after a U.S.-led military coup in 2002. The main theme is how the Bolivarian Revolution, thanks to its incredible grassroots and networking power, is a revolution that transcends the national frontiers of Venezuela and contributes with concrete alternatives to the fight against neoliberal capitalism.
