BBC HARDtalk, May 6, 2010: David Harvey, Marxist Academic

Capitalism is the way the world works, whether we like it or not. President Obama is trying, against stiff opposition, to reign in the worst excesses of free market capitalism with his reforms of Wall Street. But Professor David Harvey, Marxist author of 'The Enigma of Capital' says he's wasting his time. He tells Sarah Montague that capitalism is amoral and lawless, and should be overthrown.

It wasn't so much hard talk as blather. The most interesting turn in the 20 minutes was where the host calls Marxism a belief system and is corrected by Harvey.

Thomas Frank has convincingly called Capitalism a belief system in "One Market Under God."

The blather occurred later in the segment where the discussion turned to Utopianism.

Thanks to the uploader for putting something on that provokes discussion.

i converted this to divx and tried to watch it on my dvd/divx player but it wouldn't play because it was HD. How do you convert this to a regular divx file without the hd?

Hmmm. The latest version of VLC just loaded it up and played it.

Do you have VLC? VLC is a free Windows program. There are versions for various flavors of Linux as well as Mac OS:

Sorry I meant my standalone dvd/divx player that I use with my TV. It won't accept files that are HD but I don't know how to get rid of the HD in a conversion. I tried converting to divx but it still has the HD in there!
