He also fights illegal immigrants, indigenous people, and has a straight-up fascist on the group's board of directors.

@macho: Fights illegal immigrants? Please elaborate. And indigenous people or not, draining the ocean of life is still wrong. He is vegan (as am I) and makes his choices according to his conviction. Dont you?
And if youre referring to Brigitte Bardot being a sponsor while otherwise having some fucked up views, can you honestly claim that maybe the whole organization should be viewed as fascist? Do you apply the same model on the multinational corporates , ie the real killers of the world?

Hi PAS,

I should probably have said that he fights so-called illegal immigration, which amounts to the same thing. Here he is supporting GW Bush's plan to increase border security forces on Fox News:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,195574,00.html?sPage=specialsections.foxnews/immigration

"[He] makes his choices according to conviction. Don't you?"

Yes, and so does Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich, and Bill Gates. I don't see your point. His convictions are that we need more police against Mexicans crossing the border, that white people should stop indigenous hunting practices, and that he's entitled to write in his book an assessment of the physical attractiveness of every female crew member. Not good.

Yes, I was referring to Bardot. I never said the whole organization should be viewed as fascist, but I think that if an organization, like the Sea Shepherd Society, decide to structure itself hierarchically, it's fair to look at the leadership when assessing their politics. It's disingenuous to say that she has "otherwise fucked up views" when the Sea Shepherds clearly have a xenophobic/racist agenda that she plays into.

I definitely do apply the same criteria to multinationals.

@macho: First of all, I was referring to his convictions as a vegan, and his concern for the planet as a whole. How one comes to link that to greedy people as Gingrich and Palin, I dont know.
And about Bardot, she is donating funds to the organization, its not like they hold board meetings and she is part in building strategies. The fact that you brought up her name was obviously an attempt to taint the Sea Shepherd name, clearly not a fan. And thanks for the good one about never saying the organization was fascist and then closing with claiming it to be "xenophobic/racist".

And last, since youre using fox news as source material (really? Fox news?) you definitely do not apply the same criteria to multinationals. That basket is jampacked of rotten apples, that doesnt stop you believing their shit. And that one and only quote from Watson in the article you linked to:

"Population is the single greatest threat to diversity on this planet and also the single greatest problem when it comes to greenhouse gas emissions and resource utilization," said Paul Watson, president of the Sea Shephard Conservation Society.

does not in any way, form or fashion back up the things you say they do about "His convictions are that we need more police against Mexicans crossing the border, that white people should stop indigenous hunting practices, and that he's entitled to write in his book an assessment of the physical attractiveness of every female crew member."

No way, macho.

Fine, if you prefer the Sea Shepherd's own website, here they are speaking about how they were excited to have "spoken out" on FOX News:

http://www.seashepherd.org/news-and-media/editorial-060518-1.html

They were perfectly happy to support an anti-immigrant pro-Bush piece without a word of criticism, before and after the fact, so the problem is not with Fox having misrepresented the Sea Shepherd.
